Choose a remodeling contractor with construction & business experience

Let’s face it most bathroom, kitchen or basement remodeling contractors are a pain in the butt to deal with. Construction delays, change orders, poor communications can all be par for the course (if you’re a consumer with a nightmarish contractor story you’re not alone!).

The reality is many remodeling projects are complex (there are a lot of steps and different construction trades in the process) and a good percentage of the skilled trades don’t have the business and organizational background to manage and lead the people and processes to ensure an excellent customer experience. So… the question is what can you do to choose the right general contractor the first time? Check out the 7 ½ tips below:

Front Porch Addition During Construction – Fiberglass Columns and Vinyl Soffit for Low Maintenance

The problem: Rich (a homeowner in Cleveland Ohio) had a problem – the lack of a front porch roof caused the concrete stoop to get icy and unsafe in the winter, the front entry door was hard to open, and the look of the front entrance was not as nice as Rich would like. Rich wanted to make sure to do this project with low maintenance materials to minimize time he might need to spend maintaining the roof and porch structure.

The solution: Steve Vlk (Project Manager from Cleveland Design & Remodeling) designed a hip style front roof which was attached to the existing home. Steve recommended materials for the project to compliment the architecture of the home and to keep the structure as maintenance free as possible for Rich. Here are the specific decisions Rich and Steve made to achieve a safe, stylish, and better functioning front porch design.    Continue reading “Project Spotlight: Adding a Front Porch Roof for Safety, Style, & Function – Cleveland Ohio” »

On a recent trip to Nemacolin Woodlands (a fantastic vacation spot) my 11 year old son met another boy his age from New Jersey. After talking to the boy I learned that he motivated his parents to drive him all the way from New Jersey to this vacation spot in Pennsylvania (about a 10 hour drive) because he wants to be an architect and wanted to see Fallingwater (the famous home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). I thought to myself how cool is it that an 11 year old boy would be excited enough about home design to be able to get his parents to take him this far just to see a house!

This young man should be an inspiration to us all. Why settle for a boring bathroom remodeling project when you can design something with a sense of wow and/or a feeling of tranquility? Why “settle” for a bland bathroom when with a little planning you can have something extraordinary? Here are some ideas to inspire your bathroom remodeling design: Continue reading “Your bathroom remodeling project – Be Inspired!” »
